Bicentennial by Mayra Tarazona 7-05

The Library Network of the Bank of the Republic, for the bicentenary of independence, wants to give all Colombians a space where you can read a number of documents produced from 1750 to 1850 in various places, instances and circumstances. We hope that many Colombians of all ages to find documents of interest and here to start to answer all the questions they have for the past.
This space will be built from now, focusing first around 1810 and then extended back and forth and, where possible, deepening. It will not be exhaustive, but if we expect to have basic coverage for different regions of the country. Will in principle documents already printed and published.

We called the Independence period as a time deposit, especially for the production and searching for directions. The frequent references we refer schools, press, Botanical Expedition, Royal Library, Communards, Misiones, Reforms, gatherings, travel, chicha, chicken pox, councils, boards and conspiracies. It left us royal decrees and orders, periodicals, pamphlets and posters, paintings, sermons, relationships, and memorials, journals, manuals, plans, maps, speeches, trials, proclamations, constitutions and proceedings. In the period emerge multitude of speeches from various cities and towns, words acquire new meanings, proposes new legitimacy and identities of individuals and groups, are redrawing the map of social loyalties, political, and religious tensions are becoming more visible daily even within families. There are changes in the ways in which feels and says you live and what is public and social order. Is a Invention time of political subjects and sociability, new media like the press, and the establishment of many new places where we intervene in the political arena. But above all, a time of many words and increased writing and reading.

That’s why we Bicentennial is an opportunity to make available to different readerships, a repertoire of texts and images in different ways related to the processes of independence. We present the documents not because we believe they contain the truth or what “really happened”, but because they are contemporary records we have access. We hope your reading and analysis help to propose new questions from audiences readers better understand the diversity of processes in the period, their meanings and significance and to develop multiple stories from different points of view, spaces and subjects that may be able to contribute to articulate a representation of our past to the present.
Route liberators:

1810-2010, the cycle of our republican democracy, including those years when the Spanish crown partially regained its military hegemony and found a hardened Army liberator who in 1819 claimed a victory. The patriotic deeds of our heroes return guardianship of its glorious past and legendary to meet the new generations eager to know how was the genesis of our nationality.
Under the leadership of the former Deputy Minister of Culture Maria Cecilia Donado and collaboration by several official bodies, for several months been working on this purpose, the High Commission for the Bicentennial of Independence.
